Getting ready for Orienteering!

Updated: Aug 22

Cadets,

Orienteering is a event commonly hosted in late May. This year the plan is to have it fall on the 25th.

Orienteering is an opportunity to engage with your platoon for what may be the last time this year and work together on a trek through Huntington Park. That being said some precautions and notices should be followed.

The event will be cancelled given rain, stormy conditions, or if wind is too high. Assuming all goes well other thing must be taken into account. First, you will be outside for an extended period of time, so sunscreen is a must. Second, while you will be on a path there are still risks from ticks and bugs, so wear bug repellent gear along with spray if you can. Dress appropriately, you will be walking and can win medals, don't bring down your platoon because of sports crocs. Bring water and food as well as this can take upwards of 4-5 hours.

In the past the first 2 teams got medals, it is up to LCDR who gets the medals, don't argue about it. Different platoons get different courses so be ready for anything.

To the NS1 class, this is a great opportunity to show off your abilities to the upperclassmen.

Prepare well, and good luck!
